Heart-leaved Primrose, Camissonia cardiophylla

Photo of a Heart-leaved Primrose

What's in a name? Cardiologists are physicians who attend to peoples' hearts. Phylla means leaf. Cardiophylla means heart-shaped leaf. But there is more than that to this plant, a lover of sheltered places that don't get much sun. The younger flowers are yellow, but as they age they turn red, often giving us a plant with both colors.

A member of the Evening Primrose Family, Onagraceae.
