The Light-Colored Tierra Blanca Mountains from Vallecito Creek

For travelers coming from the east, the appearance of the Tierra Blanca Mountains in the distance meant the beginning of the end of desert travel. They would turn north, possibly stopping at Vallecito, and then continue to San Felipe and Warner Springs.

Travelers today may explore such points of interest as Bow Willow (with an Anza-Borrego Desert State Park improved campground -- a small fee is charged), Mountain Palm Springs (primitive camping), Indian Valley, and Agua Caliente County Park. Sombrero Peak can be climbed in a day.
