9 a.m. – Plant Sale Opens. Don't miss this beautiful variety of native and desert adapted plants – flowering perennials, cacti, succulents, shrubs, and trees – for sale. Gift size, many one-gallon size, and up. Drive up for easy loading. Desert gardening books and organic worm compost available also.
9 a.m. – Plant Show Opens. Over 75 live species of native desert plants-including wildflowers-displayed with identifying labels.
9 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. Easy Desert Plant Walk: What's Blooming. See what's blooming with Linda King on this easy walk to see local flora, including spring wildflowers. Bring water. Space limited, call to reserve. No charge. See also walk at 1 p.m.
9 a.m. - Noon. Get Started with Gardening – Special for first 50 kids! Take home a free young plant to care for and watch grow. Includes gardening information.
9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Traditional Uses of Native Plants Representing the Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center, Naturalist Suzanne Emory will be on hand to discuss native culture, history, and plants. She has assembled an outdoor display of native plants and their traditional uses.
10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Special Program: Organic Gardening in a Desert Landscape. Horticulturist Connie Beck discusses garden design, fertilization, planting techniques, mulch, and plant choices for a desert environment Connie is an instructor with the Cuyamaca College Water Conservation Garden and is involved with numerous other organizations with expertise in water conservation, organic gardening, and native plants. 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Program: Desert Plant Adaptations, How to Play the Game of Survival-and Win! During a fun and interactive program, Botanist Kate Harper will share how desert plants survive-the ingenious and varied adaptations used by plants in our local deserts. At the ABDNHA Library.
