Borrego Rock and Gem Club
Minutes for meeting held on Saturday, January 27, 2007
Location of meeting: Borrego Desert Nature Center
1. Discussion about the Gypsum Mine.
If we make an appointment, we can go into the mine pit where there is much alabaster available for the taking. It’s unknown whether or not this can be done on weekends – we will follow-up to see if it’s possible.
2. Discussion about the GIA in Carlsbad, California.
They do tours of the facility – something to consider for a future field trip.
3. March field trip to the Red Cloud Mine.
Agreement was made to change the March field trip to the Red Cloud Mine. Material available there is blood stone and serpentine. More details will follow as the date approaches (March 10th)
4. Remaining club meetings for this year are as follows:
- March 31st (10 AM at the nature center)
- April 28th (10 AM at the nature center)
- May 19th - The May meeting will be combined with the McCain Valley field trip instead of occurring at the nature center.
- October 20th (10 AM at the nature center)
- December 8th (2008 elections and trip planning. 10 AM at the nature center).
5. February meeting
The February meeting will be held 2/24 at the Gem and Mineral Show at the
Indio Date Festival. Details of where and when to meet will be provided.
