Borrego Rock and Gem Club
Meeting Minutes, 10 April 2010

A BRAG meeting was held on April 10, 2010 at the ABDNHA meeting room.

1. There were eight persons in attendance, including two guests.

2. The treasurer's report noted that there is a surplus in the treasury.

3. Bob passed around some earthquake record maps as part of a discussion of the recent regional earthquakes.

4. The recent field trip was to Obsidian Buttes West of Salton Sea. On the way to the Buttes, a daring rescue was effected by the group. A traveler was stuck in the soft sand by the roadside. While a Highway Patrol Officer diverted traffic, the group pushed the traveler's vehicle to unstuckness and safety.

5. At the Buttes, we observed a myriad of variations in the obsidian formations and loose examples. Also many examples of pumice were available for examination.

6. The next stop was at the Sonny Bono Recreation area, where we had lunch. We were also fortunate to observe a large Barn Owl perched high in a palm tree in front of the Visitors Center.

7. Onward to the mud pots we went. The mud pots were happily bubbling along in their usual musical way.

8. Then off to Salvation mountain, where we observed some strangely interesting architecture. And lots of painted mud.

9. Interest was shown for another trip to Pebble Terrace. We will keep this on the list for a possible trip next year. Some of the group who missed the last trip are planning to go to the Terrace this year. We look forward to their impressions of the visit to the area.

10. The next field trip will be to Anza's Angel, or the "Borrego Golfer" formation, behind the Seley growing grounds. We will need permission to cross the private land to get there. This will be a park and hike trip. It is scheduled for April 24, 2010. An Email notification will be forthcoming.
